TheoryWorks II: The Callback

If you sing, chances are good that you have a "sticky ear."

You absorb melodies and harmonies almost instantly, which is great -- unless you absorb it wrong. Fixing those mistakes and holding a tricky harmony require deeper understanding and training.

Join us for a 6-week "blended" session (both online and in-person) on harmony, key signatures, scales, ear training, and form. Students first learn the material independently in our online TheoryWorks courses, and then meet weekly with a TheoryWorks coach one-on-one to review that week's material and assignment over Zoom.

In addition to the First Day of School Meet-Up at Ripley Grier, class culminates with one other in-person session, this time as a final Mock Callback for a panel of your coaches, including Master Teacher Andrea Grody (music director for THE BAND'S VISIT and TOOTSIE). Each actor will be required to learn at least 2 harmony lines for the same piece of music, and placed in small groups to test blend and harmony abilities. The class ends with a "Broadway Bootcamp" hour, where Andrea teaches an ensemble number from a Broadway show at Broadway-speed.

Schedule:

- September 21st: First Day of School - In person Meet-Up at Ripley Grier

- September 21st - October 24th: Weekly one-on-one Zoom coachings, on your schedule (a total of 6 coachings)

- October 24th: Final Class - In person Mock Callback with Andrea Grody

By the final class, actors will be able to hold their harmony against the other singers, and test their ability to absorb their parts quickly in a Broadway-paced music rehearsal.
